Typical Mediterranean climate. Hot in summer, mild in winter. From December to February there is a "little summer". Not surprisingly, up to 3 million almond trees blossom as early as January.
In summer, long periods of fine weather with temperatures of up to 35 to 40 degrees Celsius are normal. At the end of August and beginning of September, the summer is regularly interrupted by the "Gota fría" (cold drop) for 2-3 days. After that, very good weather returns until October, with milder temperatures of 25-30 centigrades.
Even in summer, there can be occasional strong winds or even storms caused by the MISTRAL. The mistral forms when there is a high-pressure system over the Azores and a low-pressure system in the Gulf of Genoa. This is followed by strong to hurricane force winds (up to Bft. 8-9) from the northwest to the southeast from France. However, only the north-east coast of Mallorca and the north coast of Menorca are under the influence of the mistral, then also with a very high swell. These areas should be avoided in mistral conditions. The mistral is announced by the very good Spanish weather forecasts a few days in advance.
The ideal time for sailing is from April/May to October.
The Balearic Islands are considered to be the highlight of the yachting industry in Europe.
All renowned manufacturers and service companies from all over Europe have a branch office in Mallorca.
The technical infrastructure with shipyards and service companies on the Balearic Islands, especially in Mallorca, can also be described as excellent.
There are a total of 47 marinas and yacht harbours, of which 41 are in Mallorca, 2 in Menorca and 5 in Ibiza.
In addition, there are a large number of wonderful anchorages on all the Balearic islands, most of them with sandy beaches.
The distances between all the islands can be covered in a day's sailing.
The Balearic Islands were a trading centre from very early on. Even today you can find very intact merchant ships from the Phoenician period under the sandy seabed, rescued, restored and exhibited in museums.
The island of CABRERA, off the southeast coast of Mallorca, stands out. Cabrera is a strict nature reserve, with no development except for a small ranger station. There are also snacks and beers at the small kiosk. In the natural harbour of Puerto de Cabrera you can moor at one of the 50 mooring buoys, which have to be booked in advance through the charter base or internet. Anchoring is strictly forbidden. At night you can admire the incredible starry sky especially well because there are no lights on Cabrera.
Numerous and very varied routes for yachts make the sailing area of the Balearic Islands particularly attractive.
Our charter companies in Mallorca have been in existence for 35 years, today in the second generation. Since then we have been working together to the satisfaction of all our clients.

Not all sailing licences of non-EU citizens are recognised in Spain. Please send us a copy of your sailing licence with your charter application. We will check the validity with the charter base in advance.
We strongly recommend that you hire a local skipper for the planned charter, who speaks your language. The skipper knows the local conditions, recommends suitable routes taking into account weather and wind forecasts. He knows the best marinas and the most beautiful anchorages and can book overnight moorings, help with restaurant reservations, shopping and much more. Please always consider a separate cabin on board for the captain.
Around Mallorca approx. 180 mn, around Menorca approx. 90 mn, around Ibiza and Formentera approx. 99 mn (in each case excluding entrances to bays and anchorages).
