The Turkish Aegean: Modern marinas, hundreds of anchor bays with typical Turkish cuisine, welcoming city harbours

The country boasts countless islands and bays with dreamlike beaches and nature, a rich culture, ancient cities, hospitable and friendly people. Many sites have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites: mosques, cities, fortresses, caravanserais, thermal springs and many other places of interest, such as Ephesus near Kusadasi. 300 days of sunshine and excellent and varied cuisine make Turkey the perfect holiday destination.

The Turkish Aegean

The Turkish Aegean, located in the west of the country, is a popular sailing area for beginners and advanced sailors alike. From Cesme, off Izmir, it stretches through Kusadasi and Marmaris to Fethiye, with its charming old town, and Ölü Deniz as far south as Kos.

Ideal summer climate, mostly moderate winds, numerous romantic anchorages and modern, well-equipped marinas and harbours.

The climate in the Turkish Aegean is Mediterranean, sometimes even subtropical. Summers are hot and dry, with maximum temperatures of over 30 degrees Celsius, and winters are very mild.

In the summer months, wind conditions are almost ideal: the Meltemi blows fairly steadily at this time with 3 to 4 Bft. from the north. It brings pleasantly cool air with low humidity. In spring and autumn, occasionally stronger winds from the southeast.

The Turkish Aegean is also an ideal sailing area in terms of wind and weather. The "Meltemi", which blows from the north, usually blows in summer with 3-4 Bft. In addition, it carries fresh air and brings with it a bright blue sky. The Meltemi should not be underestimated, as wind conditions can develop differently from place to place; it can also cool up to 6-8 Bft. at the headlands and at the nozzles between islands. Especially in spring and autumn, expect stronger "Lodos" winds from the southeast from time to time.

The ideal time for sailing is from May to October.

Gulf of Fethiye - Göcek - Marmaris
Islas vírgenes con exuberante vegetación, pintorescos pueblos pesqueros, playas de arena y aguas cristalinas para

Unspoilt islands with lush vegetation, picturesque fishing villages, sandy beaches and crystal clear waters for swimming and diving: the Turkish Aegean is ideal for family crews, even with children, from May to September. Anchoring in the bays is usually on dry land or on the rocks with an additional shore line attached to the stern.

There are many sheltered anchorages everywhere, at short intervals, without buildings or even roads. Some of them have the typical, very simple stalls offering a typical Turkish dish for lunch and dinner. They serve what is cooked the same day.

Of course, also a good Turkish country wine and the indispensable digestive "raki". Most innkeepers have built a small jetty - for their guests - where you can moor your boat with a bow anchor. Be sure to try it, it can be a "long" evening...

There are harbours in Fethiye, Göcek (2), Marmaris (3), Orhaniye, Bodrum (2) and Ogun`2 in Datca, all in all a sailing area to relax and unwind.

Numerous and varied routes for yachts make the Turkish Aegean particularly attractive.

The Turkish Aegean has only a few large marinas. However, you can find places to spend the night anyway and better in countless anchorage bays.

Our charter company in Marmaris - with 35 years of experience in the charter business - is a medium-sized, reputable and qualified company with 15-20 sailing yachts and catamarans. The comparatively small number of yachts allows a particularly intensive service with German standards and under German management for the satisfaction of charter clients.

Sailing is easy everywhere. However, you should be familiar with the reefing of the sails.

Couples - groups of friends - in summer also for families with children

Not all boating licences are recognised in Turkey. Please send us a copy of your sailing licence with your charter application. We will check the validity with the charter base in advance.

We strongly recommend that you hire a local skipper for your planned charter. He speaks the local language and in any case also English. The skipper knows the local conditions, recommends suitable routes taking into account weather and wind forecasts. He knows the best marinas and books moorings for the night, helps with restaurant reservations, shopping and much more. For the skipper, always consider a separate cabin on board.
